Gabby has a bright smile on her lips more often than not to coincide with her demeanor. As far as dressing style, Gabriella loves wearing dresses with tights and pairing them with boots (most of the time with heels). She doesn’t wear a lot of jewelry because she finds that nothing suits her more than the broken-in-half locket that she shares with her sister Nadia- but it could be just that she’s picky. She’s goal-oriented- always knowing what she wants and how to get there… problem being, she doesn’t always want to make the effort to do so. Gabriella has a terrible habit of accepting things that fall directly onto her plate in front of her, rather than working for them. She’s somewhat self-centered- but she’s working on that! She’s trying to take other peoples’ feelings into account but finding it difficult after so many years of stepping on heads to get there. So- she’s trying first with those she loves the most. the history father • Alexei Ivanova, 45, occupation unknown mother • Clara Ivanova, 43, cursebreaker siblings • Nadia Ivanova, 22, Madam Primpernelle’s Beautifying Potions Aria, 14, 4th year. important people/pets • two cats- a tuxedo named Fancy and a tabby kitten named Molly. Rolo Grant. hometown • Oslo / Kent overall history • Alexei Ivanova and Clara Daag were never supposed to be. Two years apart when they’d been in school, the pair did not know much about the other- save for the final year of Alexei, when he’d taken a special interest in the sixteen-year-old Clara. Alexei had always been dutiful in his studies, but Clara proved to be the one thing to draw him out of his work. Clara’s elder brother, in the same year as Alexei, knew what the lad was capable of and had warned his sister, but she became enamored with the dark and handsome caller and accepted his courtship. Of course, it wasn’t until after Clara had become pregnant- at eighteen, mind you- that Alexei started to show his true colors. He had always been a demanding man; even at the most smitten point of Clara’s life she would admit that. But things seemed to change after she had become pregnant. He didn’t apologize when he insulted her. He complained when the food wasn’t cooked to his specifications. The formerly sweet and bubbly Clara was crumpling under the weight of Alexei’s attitude, and she was the only one who wasn’t seeing it. The relationship- or rather, marriage- had only gotten worse at the birth of their first, and accidental, child. For, as one might assume, Alexei was interested in having a son, and through the entire pregnancy had claimed that the child was going to be a boy. Much, of course, to his disappointment, the child was a girl. Two years later, when Clara became pregnant again, happened another girl child. Alexei took his frustration out on his wife, who was a useless wench, likely cheating on him because HE would NEVER produce female children. Nadia’s birth was enough to produce a fit of rage comparable to a hurricane. Burying Gabriella in a corner and cuddling a wriggling baby Nadia to her chest and clutching her wand in her free hand, she waited for silence to creep through the household before moving. The door had slammed, but that didn’t always mean he was entirely gone- but this time he was. Clara always thanked the gods that her girls had been too young to remember what happened to their father. One might have thought that upon seeing his baby daughters, Alexei would have lightened up a bit. At least let a smile curl at the corner of his lips. But the sight had disgusted him. He hadn’t wanted children, but if he were forced into such a predicament, they were to be boy children. He never touched any of his girls- to them, they never had a father. Rafe, Clara’s elder brother, had been there the moment Alexei left to help pick up the pieces, but Clara, frustrated that Rafe hadn’t been a part of her life for the past five years demanded him leave. She didn’t let him back into the house until he came with divorce papers, signed and ready for Clara’s approval. Clara had the sneaking suspicion that her brother had beaten the signatures out of him, but she’d never said so. It was his form of apology. After tears, Rafe helped her pick up the pieces and his wife, a stay at home mother of three, watched Clara’s daughters on the regular so she could train to do what she wanted before life happened. Gabriella and Nadia weren’t exactly favored among their cousins. Up until then, Clara had kept the two away from the roughhousing boys, forcing the girls into a situation of ‘bucking up’ and ‘learning to play with others.’ Clara had spoiled them so they wouldn’t grow up knowing what their father was. Gabriella was old enough to hop onto one of their old brooms and following them high into the sky- it was these early evening into night quidditch sessions where she really learned of her love of quidditch. Gabriella and Nadia spent so much time at their aunt and uncle’s that they had basically become their parents. Clara, who’d taken on the harsh task of curse breaking, was constantly travelling and leaving the girls behind. Gabriella was hurt, mostly- she thought that she had done something to cause her mother to leave. She always swallowed the lump in the back of her throat and held Nadia when she’d cry out in the night for her. Gabriella filled her days with playing quidditch with her boy cousins and the ballet classes that her aunt Miri had enrolled her in. She made friends easily- and the same went for when she arrived at Hogwarts, being sorted happily into Hufflepuff house. She shared her quidditch hobby with a good portion of her housemates, and spoke wildly about the professional league and a lot of classmates would come to her if they wanted to know a fun fact, or what year Lisa Urqhardt broke her kneecap in a crazy, freak accident. Gabby had always been a well for useless information. She fell behind in her studies, and not because she was distracted by other things, but because she wasn’t very smart. It took a lot of effort for Gabriella to keep up with her studies- lots of tutoring sessions, late-night reading, and listening intently in class. She had to- it was the only way that she could stay on the quidditch team, and she wasn’t about to just let someone else snag that captain position right from under her nose. In her seventh year, she acquired that sought after position, and was well-liked among her teammates. She always offered advice and even group homework sessions if they were any of them that fell behind. She knew what that felt like. But what she didn’t know, was the feeling she was giving Nadia by not giving her as much attention as she could- Nadia was a quiet soul who buried her nose in books and Gabriella, who was too busy with her own friends and quidditch didn’t pay her sister much attention. They grew apart easily, and even more so when their mother announced the birth of their new half-sister in Gabby’s second year. Following graduation from Hogwarts, it was easy for Gabriella to fall into a position on Puddlemere United quidditch team, and she relished being a starting rookie. She loved being in the papers and answering interview questions. Quite recently, Gabriella had been ushered onto the British National Team as their keeper. She struggles not being the center of attention, but being out of the spotlight had caused her to take a few steps back and look at the more important things in life. She recently reconnected with Nadia who seemed less than thrilled about the idea, and attracted the attention of a cute-but-quiet cursebreaker from Gringott’s. Gabriella isn’t used to working hard for what she wants, and she’s learning that she can’t just show up and have things done for her. She’s at the point where she knows she’s good enough for what she sets her mind to, but doesn’t feel as though she is. It’s a complicated emotion, and its wreaking havoc on her confidence. the role player |
